  https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/mary-mcdonald-obituary?id=25341928 Mary Velma King was born on April 23, 1919 to Stanley and Mabel King (née Suddaby) in Drake, Saskatchewan. She had five brothers (four pre-deceased her) and three sisters. In 1929, her parents moved to Edmonton, Alberta where Mary attended Eastwood School. After graduating from high school, Mary worked in the shoe department at Hudson's Bay in downtown Edmonton. Mary accepted the Lord as her Lord and Saviour at a very young age. During her teen years, she spent many evenings assisting at kids' clubs in private homes_chiefly in north Edmonton. It was during this time she met her future mother-in-law, Addie McDonald, and was introduced to her son, Bill. Mary married William (Bill) Smith McDonald on November 30, 1940, and together they raised four sons (Morley (Joan), Bruce (Rosalyn), Kenneth (Shirley), and Stuart (Edina) and one daughter, Mary Ann (David). In 1940, Bill enlisted in the Army and during the next 33 years they were stationed in Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Washington DC, Ottawa, and Winnipeg. In 1973, Bill retired from the army and he and Mary settled in the Nanaimo area. Bill predeceased his wife on February 4th, 1995 after a battle with cancer. While Bill was stationed in Winnipeg, Mary returned to school obtaining a diploma in Social Work which enabled her to work for the Province dealing with needy families. Mary has been faithful to the Lord and sought His will for her throughout her long life. She loved entertaining_a warm welcome, the coffee pot on, and goodies prepared at all times. Her freezers were renowned for their plenteous supply of goodies. Mary is survived by her five children, their spouses, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brother Stan King, and sisters Ruth (Bill) Russell, Jean Taylor, and Elsie (Sheldon) Harris.
